The new Visual Arts course exposes students to artistic creations that can be appreciated by sight, from painting and drawing to photography and sculpture, challenging their own creative and cultural thinking along the way.
The updated course places art-making as inquiry at its core, maintaining a creative and practice-based approach that can be tailored to different contexts and student groups. This course is designed to foster essential skills such as creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students are encouraged to see art-making as a means of engaging with the world, transforming their perspectives, and emerging as both individuals and community members.
The classroom is a dynamic visual arts studio, a collaborative and inclusive space where students can develop their artistic skills and become more independent practitioners. This environment supports a non-linear, generative, and interactive learning experience, enhancing the authenticity of the educational journey.
The creative process remains unprescribed and adaptable, with a stronger emphasis on synthesising conceptual and material practices. Students are required to engage with a diverse range of art-making forms and creative strategies, allowing for a more comprehensive exploration of visual arts.
While the course primarily focuses on visual arts, it remains flexible enough for students to pursue additional studies in sciences, individuals and societies, or languages, should they choose a broader academic path. This flexibility ensures that the Visual Arts IB course remains relevant and adaptable to the diverse interests and aspirations of its students.
