Social Skills

KS2 – KS5
10 week block
£23.00 (per session)

The Social Skills course aims to support individuals with their social interactions and understanding of social rules and communication within a small group setting of up to ten students taught by a skilled inclusion practitioner. The sessions of this course have a routine which includes:

  • an emotional check-in;
  • games, puzzles, and activities;
  • a time for pupils to discuss topics of interest;
  • share their thoughts and opinions on different topics;
  • time to reflect on different challenges that individuals can face in social situations.

Key areas of focus are speaking and listening, turn taking and teamwork, winning and losing, and supporting peers. The sessions will also include specific topics that may affect individuals. These include exploring verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional regulation, the sensory world and sensory regulation, understanding social behaviours, developing empathy, and respecting ourselves and others.

Students will be given the opportunity to discuss their own experiences and the class will then focus on different strategies that may support them. Previous students on this course often comment that they like having the opportunity to talk about experiences they have had with other pupils who can empathise with them.

This course is recommended for students with communication and interaction needs such as autism or social anxiety.

Wellbeing Support

1:1 Counselling

KS2 – KS5
From 5 sessions
£87.00 (per session)

Led by our BACP-accredited School Counsellor, counselling sessions provide more intensive, personalised support for students with significant wellbeing issues. Sessions are available to book in blocks of four sessions—with an option to book an additional block of two sessions if required.

For younger students, creative and play therapies are used to process thoughts and feelings. For older students, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) will be used, which is particularly helpful for issues such as phobias and anxiety. If students prefer a less directed approach than CBT, the approach can centre around in person-centred therapy, which allows young people to make sense of their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace.

Parents/carers can request an initial free consultation call, which provides an opportunity to outline any challenges their child is experiencing and discuss concerns or issues they feel the counsellor needs to be aware of.

Parents/carers and students are required to sign a counselling agreement before to commencing the sessions.

All students have access to pastoral support from their reflect tutor who will get to know them well throughout their time at school with us but, in some cases, individual students can benefit from more intensive pastoral and wellbeing support.

Wellbeing Mentoring provides access to a skilled inclusion practitioner, who will spend one lesson per week with your child to create and implement a plan to manage their wellbeing and help them grow the confidence to thrive in their learning. Sessions will be taught as follows:

  • Week A – Focus-group of up to three students;
  • Week B – One-to-one session.

This pattern will repeat for the duration of the student’s time on the course.

The sessions will initially focus on identifying their challenges. The inclusion practioner will then help students to build healthy routines, identify resources and approaches to manage their learning well and finally, progress to implementing and tracking a mentoring plan. Mentors will review their students’ plans regularly and provide updates to parents/carers.

This support is recommended for students who require support with organising and managing a healthy routine to underpin their learning with us and thrive in life more broadly.

Anxiety Management

KS2 – KS5
10 week block
£23.00 (per session)

With a curriculum designed by our qualified school counsellor and delivered by experienced inclusion practitioners, our Anxiety Management course focuses on two main areas: psychoeducation and anxiety management techniques.

To provide students with a greater understanding of anxiety—and in particular the fight, flight, freeze model—, students will learn all about what anxiety is, its purpose and how it functions in our brain and body. This then leads to learning about a wide range of anxiety management techniques including the following:

  • Mindfulness-based approaches;
  • Grounding techniques;
  • Breathing exercises;
  • A range of guided meditations and lastly creative art-based activities where the teacher works with pupils in the session to identify negative thought patterns and to develop a more positive mindset.

Throughout the course, the class teachers will provide a safe space for the students in the class to grow in confidence, become better able to talk on camera, and share their experiences with the class in key stage-based small groups of up to ten individuals.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
