The study of sociology A level online should stimulate awareness of contemporary social, cultural and political issues and focus attention on the importance of examining them in a rigorous, reasoned and analytical way. The Cambridge International AS level provides a solid grounding in the central ideas and approaches in sociology, including socialisation and identity, research methods and the family. Sociology A-level online students can choose to explore a variety of important areas of sociological enquiry, including globalisation, education, and media. They can develop a sociological imagination, engaging with and debating perspectives such as Marxism, Functionalism and interactionism whilst developing knowledge and understanding of important sociological issues, applying sociological material, and learning to evaluate and analyse sociological findings.
AS sociology students study the family and social change with particular reference to: family roles, marriage, changing relationships and the social construction of age. Candidates also study research methods and the relationship between theory and methods.
