In Psychology, we aim to encourage an interest in and appreciation of psychology, and of the skills and knowledge in using scientific research methods. We wish for students to appreciate also how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how psychology contributes to the success of the economy and society.
In the Pearson specification, students will develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of psychology and how they relate to each other. They will learn to develop a critical perspective on psychology by analysing how psychological theory and research can be evaluated, with a focus on both classic and modern research, and by developing competence and confidence in using a variety of practical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Units 1 and 2 form the AS qualification and include cognitive and social psychology, biological psychology, learning theories, and development.
Units 3 and 4 form the A-level qualification – these include applications of psychology and clinical and psychological skills.
