Online secondary school education provides students aged 11 to 16 with the opportunity to follow the British curriculum, mirroring that of traditional brick-and-mortar schools, but in a flexible and remote manner that suits your family’s lifestyle – entirely online.

Secondary school education, whether taught in person or online, encompasses Key Stages 3 and 4 in the UK, catering to students between the ages of 11 and 16. This phase is pivotal in a child’s academic journey as it marks their transition from primary school to preparing for their GCSEs.

Selecting the right online secondary school for your child is a significant decision, especially as it coincides with a crucial period leading up to GCSEs and subsequent educational pathways such as A Levels, the IB Diploma, BTEC, or apprenticeships. Many students opt for online secondary schools that offer the same comprehensive curriculum as traditional schools. In addition to providing equivalent subjects and teaching standards, virtual secondary schools offer advantages such as smaller class sizes, minimal disruptions, and the flexibility to join live, timetabled lessons from anywhere with an internet connection.

In the UK, both traditional and many online schools adhere to the National Curriculum, which spans two Key Stages: 3 and 4. These stages encompass a range of compulsory subjects, including English, maths, and science. Key Stage 4 provides students with the opportunity to select additional subjects of interest alongside their core subjects.

The National Curriculum serves as a standard framework followed by schools nationwide, ensuring consistency in the content taught and expected standards from students. While some schools, such as academies or private institutions, may opt for alternative curricula, they are still required to cover a broad range of topics, including the compulsory subjects of English, maths, and science. You can find further information about the national curriculum on the gov.uk website.

Many parents and students favour the British curriculum for its balanced and comprehensive approach, which effectively prepares students for their GCSEs and beyond.

King’s InterHigh delivers the full British curriculum online to an international school community, mirroring the exact structure and topics taught in secondary schools across the UK.

In the UK, all secondary schools teach the core subjects of English, maths, and science. However, the specific subjects studied may vary between Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), depending on the GCSE options chosen by students.

Whether in a traditional classroom setting or online, schools that offer the full British curriculum ensure a comprehensive range of subjects to enrich your child’s knowledge, boost confidence, and foster essential life skills for their post-secondary education and future careers.

The term “secondary school” carries different connotations depending on the country. In the United States, it typically refers to education beyond elementary school and encompasses grades 6-12. In the UK and other English-speaking nations, “secondary school” is synonymous with “high school.”

In the UK context, secondary school, or high school, caters to students aged 11-16. If adhering to the UK’s national curriculum, it prepares students for GCSE examinations while nurturing the skills necessary for future academic pursuits.

King’s InterHigh is an online secondary school, delivering an equivalent curriculum and standard of teaching to other secondary schools across the UK.

Secondary school marks a crucial phase in a child’s educational journey, spanning from age 11 to 16. During this transformative period, students undergo significant educational and personal growth as they transition from childhood to adolescence.

Throughout secondary school, students learn the fundamental skills that will shape their futures. They gain essential academic knowledge, laying the foundation for their onward educational pursuits, whether pursuing A Levels, the IB Diploma, BTEC qualifications, or embarking on an apprenticeship. Additionally, secondary school offers students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning, nurturing specific interests in subjects they find captivating, paving the way for focused study at the GCSE level.

An online secondary school like ours, presents all the advantages of traditional secondary education, coupled with the flexibility to tailor learning to individual lifestyles. This enables students to excel academically while pursuing their passions. VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.

Technology integration fee

At Inspired, we are committed to investing in cutting-edge technology to enhance student learning and development, ensuring they are well-prepared for the future. This fee will contribute to the development of our Inspired AI tools and our investment in best-in-class learning technology.
