SEN support

At King’s InterHigh, we provide supportive and flexible online learning environments for students with additional needs such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. Our dedicated in-house SEN team is highly experienced in tailoring teaching and support approaches to help each student succeed. Among other services, we offer:

Inclusive Teaching Plans (ITPs)

Every child is unique and should be able to learn in a way that suits them best. Our Inclusive Teaching Plans consider each student’s strengths and support requirements to ensure they receive the right support. Parents can amend and adjust these plans at any time.

Flexible learning and lesson recordings

With 24/7 access to lesson recordings and various other learning resources, students can review material at their own pace, reducing the pressure to absorb everything in a live lesson. This is particularly beneficial for students with ADHD and dyslexic learners, who can use this facility along with other accessibility tools available at King’s InterHigh to support them.

Minimising distractions and anxiety

Our digital classrooms are designed to minimise disruptions, creating a calm and focused learning environment. Unlike traditional settings, where external noise and movement can be overwhelming, students can learn from the comfort of home, where they can control their surroundings. For those who experience anxiety about participating in class, our private teacher chat option allows students to ask questions discreetly, without fearing getting answers wrong, sharing their thoughts, or making spelling mistakes in front of peers.

Targeted academic support

We offer drop-in support sessions for English, Maths, and Science at Key Stages 3 and 4, providing additional guidance for students to improve their mastery of these subjects and become more confident in their learning. There are also academic support courses available for students looking to improve their learning skills and study more efficiently.

Tailored Enhanced Services

Our SEND Services Hub offers various other wellbeing support courses, including:

  • Social skills and anxiety management sessions to help students navigate challenges beyond academics.
  • One-to-one and small group mentoring and coaching support.

Assistive technology and learning tools

To further support students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties, we integrate assistive technology into our platform, including:

  • ReadCloud Integration: This includes a text-to-speech feature, which helps dyslexic students by reading content aloud, aiding comprehension and retention.
  • Book Creator Accessibility: This tool includes a “Read to Me” function with word highlighting and speech-to-text capabilities. This feature allows students to have text read aloud or dictate their responses, which is especially beneficial for students who struggle with reading and writing.

Access arrangements for examinations

Students with diagnosed learning difficulties can access special exam arrangements, such as extra time, rest breaks, or assistive technology, ensuring they have a fair opportunity to perform to their full potential.

A supportive transition and community

To help students settle in smoothly, we offer a comprehensive induction programme, including video guides and live sessions, so they can familiarise themselves with our systems and processes before starting lessons.

At King’s InterHigh, we believe in creating an inclusive learning environment where every student feels supported and valued. By embracing flexible, student-centred learning and integrating assistive tools, we help learners with ADHD and other special educational needs build confidence, independence, and academic success.

At King’s InterHigh, we aim to make education accessible for everyone, including students with health conditions that may need a more personalised approach. Here’s how we ensure your child’s needs are met:

Inclusive Teaching Plans (ITPs)

Parents are encouraged to share concerns and relevant information about their child’s health during enrolment. You can also opt for your child to have an Inclusive Teaching Plan that tailors our educational approach to your child’s needs and preferred support strategies. Parents can amend and adjust these plans at any time.

Proactive monitoring and early intervention
Teachers monitor each student’s progress closely. By reviewing engagement and performance data, teachers can identify students needing extra support early on and provide timely interventions. This helps ensure that students do not fall behind and are given the assistance they need before any challenges become more significant.

Open communication channels
We believe in maintaining open communication with parents. Through the Parent Portal, parents can track their child’s progress, receive feedback, and be informed about any concerns. This fosters a collaborative environment where parents can address issues quickly and work with teachers to implement effective support strategies.

Flexible learning accommodations
Recognising that health-related absences can occur, our online platform provides 24/7 access to lesson recordings. This flexibility allows students to catch up on missed lessons at their own pace, alleviating the pressure of falling behind and accommodating various health needs.

Specialised training for educators
Our teachers receive regular training in strategies and resources tailored to support students with special educational needs. This ensures that our educators have the knowledge and tools to effectively address diverse learning needs and provide students with the best possible support.

Collaborative support network
We encourage parents to share any ongoing concerns or insights about their child’s health and learning needs at any point. This information is crucial in refining individual learning plans and ensuring effective and appropriate support.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.

Technology integration fee

At Inspired, we are committed to investing in cutting-edge technology to enhance student learning and development, ensuring they are well-prepared for the future. This fee will contribute to the development of our Inspired AI tools and our investment in best-in-class learning technology.
