The maximum number of students in a lesson depends on the lesson type. For example, our Explore classroom never exceeds 20 students, while our Learn classrooms are slightly larger and can exceed 5o students, depending on the cohort size. Importantly, we always make sure that each class has the right number of students to ensure they can engage and participate while receiving the attention and support they need from their teacher.
We understand that every student is different. Some students thrive with more interaction, while others prefer a quieter, less distracting environment. We’re committed to providing a personalised learning experience that works for each child.
To offer flexibility, we allow parents to choose the level of interaction that suits their child’s needs. These levels can be changed in the Student Hub:
We’ll continue to work closely with families to ensure every student feels engaged and supported.
At King’s InterHigh, most of our classrooms are mixed-ability, allowing students to learn together and support one another. The only exception is Maths in KS4, whereby students are split into sets depending on which tier exam they are working towards.
We offer taster sessions throughout the year, so you can get a feel for lessons suited to your child’s age group. Be sure to check our open events page for details on any upcoming sessions.
At King’s InterHigh, we believe assessments should support your child’s learning journey, helping them build confidence and reach their full potential. Our approach combines a variety of assessment methods, each designed to inspire and track progress along the way:
If your child experiences anxiety or a similar condition, we offer a microphone exemption to help reduce pressure during live lessons. As your child’s confidence grows, they may feel ready to engage more in class discussions. When that time comes, simply reach out to us, and we’ll gladly lift the exemption. We’re here to support your child every step of the way.
Apply lessons are dedicated time for students to work on assignments that reinforce their learning. During these lessons, a staff member is available to offer guidance and support as needed, helping students manage their time effectively and stay on top of their workload.
Currently, we do not offer lessons in any languages except English.
Our digital classroom environment at King’s InterHigh is designed to avoid behavioural issues, disruptions, and distractions. If needed, teachers can restrict a student’s access to chat or microphone communication until the end of the lesson. Teachers can also separate students into breakout rooms so they can talk through behaviour and remedy the situation after class ends.
All students are informed of the rules and controls in place. This creates a positive learning atmosphere for all students and helps ease worries for students who may have experienced bullying in the past.
Students will need textbooks for certain subjects. A full book list is available through the parent portal, and most books are available through Amazon or other major online retailers.
Students in KS3-KS5 will take CEM baseline assessments, giving teachers a clear picture of each student’s potential in high-stakes exams. Teachers also regularly use formative assessments—like weekly quizzes—to keep track of progress. We also incorporate a dynamic blend of summative and formative checkpoints, tailored to each phase, ensuring that assessments are timely and relevant. Teachers use assignments at the end of every topic to dive deeper into understanding and gauge how well students have grasped the material.
This approach to assessment is designed to track progress in a way that’s both efficient and supportive, striking the right balance between challenge and support without overwhelming students. If a student falls behind or excels, teachers can quickly adjust the content to keep them on the right path, ensuring every learner gets the attention they need to thrive.
At King’s InterHigh, we use various methods to personalise learning, ensuring every student is supported and challenged appropriately. Our approach includes breakout rooms for focused group work, self-marking quizzes for instant feedback, and multimedia content to keep students engaged. We also incorporate VR environments for immersive learning experiences.
To further support individual needs, we offer Inclusive Teaching Plans (ITPs), which help tailor lessons to different learning requirements. Our commitment to inclusive learning ensures that every student—regardless of their abilities or background—can access and engage with the curriculum in a way that works best for them. These are just some of the tools and strategies we use to create engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences.
At King’s InterHigh, we offer small class sizes of no more than 20 students for our Explore lessons. In these classes, students delve into the learning with discussions, digital tools and technologies, breakout rooms, and more. Explore lessons are preceded by a lecture-style Learn class in KS2 Years 5 and 6, KS3 & 5, which is a larger class session. Learn lessons focus on introducing key content, concepts and skills for the week ahead.
At Key Stage 4, students complete a Discovery Session before the Explore lesson. These sessions consist of a video, recorded by King’s InterHigh teachers, covering the essential knowledge and skills to be taught that week. The video is followed by a quiz, which students are asked to complete. Explore teachers review the quiz answers to identify areas that require special focus.
Yes, all our teachers are fully qualified subject specialists, with years of experience teaching the British Curriculum in traditional and online schools before joining King’s InterHigh. They are trained to deliver engaging online lessons and provide personalised support to help students succeed.
All our online lessons are taught live, and our subject-expert teachers leverage various interactive elements to keep students engaged. Students who attend classes according to their timetables can interact with their teachers and classmates through video, audio, and text. For the utmost flexibility, we also record every live lesson. These class recordings (along with lesson resources) are available to view at any time, 24/7, so students can revise at their own pace.
If your child will be absent from class, you can let us know easily through the Parent Hub. At King’s InterHigh, our flexible approach to learning means students don’t have to worry if they can’t attend every lesson due to external commitments. All classes are recorded and available to watch anytime, 24/7. If your child misses a lesson, they can catch up with the recording and reach out to their teacher directly via email for extra guidance.
