The top questions we are asked

By King's InterHigh

At InterHigh, prospective parents and pupils frequently ask us many questions, many of whom are unfamiliar with what an online school is and how it works. Below are answers to the most popular questions we receive. You can access our full FAQs here.

1. How does it work?

King’s InterHigh students log into a secure online platform to access their timetabled lessons, resources, and assignments. Lessons are live and led by experienced teachers, with opportunities for real-time interaction, questions, and collaboration through chat, polls, and breakout rooms. If students can’t attend live, they can catch up with on-demand lesson recordings, accessible 24/7. The platform also hosts a virtual library, clubs, wellbeing support, and one-to-one sessions when needed. Parents can track progress through regular reports and a dedicated Parent Hub, while students enjoy the freedom to learn from anywhere. All they need is a laptop and a stable internet connection.

2. What support do you provide pupils?

Core subjects (English, Maths, and Science) offer additional weekly support classes, though provision may vary across year groups. Students can also contact their teachers for additional help. Our SEN team is on hand to help create effective Inclusive Teaching Plans (ITP) for students with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).

Many students also use their lesson recordings to brush up on difficult concepts. They can rewatch any past lesson and review material they didn’t grasp the first time. We also have academic support clubs where students can drop in to get help with an area of the curriculum they might be struggling with. These support clubs are part of our co-curricular offer.

3. Is online schooling recognised?

Yes, online schooling is recognised, what matters most is the curriculum and qualifications offered. At King’s InterHigh, students study the British curriculum and can earn widely respected qualifications like GCSEs, A Levels, and the International Baccalaureate (IB). These are the same qualifications studied in traditional schools and are accepted by universities and employers around the world. As long as students complete their courses through accredited exam boards, their education is just as valid as if they had attended in person.

4. We are based outside of the UK, can my child still attend?

Of course, King’s InterHigh can be accessed worldwide. In fact, our global student community spans 133 countries! We offer timetabled lessons across a choice of three time zones to more closely meet your family’s needs:

  • Our UK time zone (GMT)
  • Our Middle Eastern time zone (GST+4)
  • And our Southeast Asia time zone (GMT +7)

5. Can I enrol my child mid-way through the school year?

Yes, we accept enrolments throughout the year. For exam years (11 and 13), enrolments past the first half term will be considered on a case-by-case basis due to the amount of work and time left before the start of formal examinations.

6. How long does enrolment take?

Enrolment at King’s InterHigh is a fairly straightforward process and can usually be completed in a matter of days, depending on how quickly documents are submitted. After filling out an online application, the admissions team will review the student’s details, confirm the appropriate year group or subjects, and help finalise the enrolment. Once everything is in place, including payment and any required documentation, students can typically start learning within a week—sometimes even sooner if spaces are available.

7. Do you have experience in working with children with SEN issues?

Yes, our staff have years of experience working with SEN students, and we have a dedicated SEN team always on hand to provide further support. We aim to make education accessible for everyone, including students with health conditions that may need a more personalised approach. Here’s how we ensure your child’s needs are met:

Inclusive Teaching Plans (ITPs)

Parents are encouraged to share concerns and relevant information about their child’s health during enrolment. You can also opt for your child to have an Inclusive Teaching Plan that tailors our educational approach to your child’s needs and preferred support strategies. Parents can amend and adjust these plans at any time.

Proactive monitoring and early intervention
Teachers monitor each student’s progress closely. By reviewing engagement and performance data, teachers can identify students needing extra support early on and provide timely interventions. This helps ensure that students do not fall behind and are given the assistance they need before any challenges become more significant.

Open communication channels
We believe in maintaining open communication with parents. Through the Parent Portal, parents can track their child’s progress, receive feedback, and be informed about any concerns. This fosters a collaborative environment where parents can address issues quickly and work with teachers to implement effective support strategies.

Flexible learning accommodations
Recognising that health-related absences can occur, our online platform provides 24/7 access to lesson recordings. This flexibility allows students to catch up on missed lessons at their own pace, alleviating the pressure of falling behind and accommodating various health needs.

Specialised training for educators
Our teachers receive regular training in strategies and resources tailored to support students with special educational needs. This ensures that our educators have the knowledge and tools to effectively address diverse learning needs and provide students with the best possible support.

Collaborative support network
We encourage parents to share any ongoing concerns or insights about their child’s health and learning needs at any point. This information is crucial in refining individual learning plans and ensuring effective and appropriate support.

8. What about the social side of school?

At King’s InterHigh, the social side of school is an important part of the experience. While students learn online, they build friendships and connections through interactive live lessons, group projects, clubs, societies, and extracurricular activities—from drama and debate to coding and chess. There are also virtual common rooms, social events, and in-person meetups or trips, helping students feel part of a real community. Many students say they’ve formed lasting friendships with classmates all over the world, proving that online doesn’t mean isolated.

9. I live outside of the UK, where can I sit examinations?

If you live outside the UK, you can still sit your GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, or IB exams locally at an approved exam centre. King’s InterHigh offers a wide range of IGCSE subjects through major exam boards like Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International. These qualifications are recognised and ideal for international learners, especially as they’re designed for flexible assessment without in-person coursework. The school helps students find and register with nearby centres, often hosted by British Council offices or international schools, and provides all the necessary guidance and documentation. With hundreds of exam centres worldwide, it’s usually possible to sit your exams close to home while following the same curriculum and standards as students in the UK.

By King's InterHigh

King’s InterHigh is an independent British international online school. Offering Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form education, we cater to students from age 7 – 18 who are looking for a high quality British education delivered in a way that revolves around their lifestyle.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
