Meet new history teacher, Annalisa Cleland-Awity

I have a BA Hons in History from the University of Birmingham and a PGCE and a MA in Leadership both from University College London (UCL).

I entered teaching for a number of reasons. My teachers were a massive inspiration to me at school and I wanted to be that role model to others. Before I entered teaching, I trained local charities and community groups in fundraising. It was always really satisfying watching people leave sessions feeling empowered. Teaching History in inner city London was a great way to connect with students who were once like me.

I really enjoy it when students ask questions that challenge the world around us or apply what we study in class to everyday situations. I always want the students I teach to see the connections with their own lives. 

I started teaching History at a secondary school in East London. I went on to lead a Humanities Facutly in South East London before moving to Dubai to teach at an international school.

It's exciting to be part of a school that is the future. The world is changing and education has been slow to keep up pace. King's InterHigh is flexible and personalised.

I am really excited to to meet our students. I am looking forward to developing those connections and getting to know them really well.

I think that it is important to first have a vision then work towards that. I believe in getting it down on paper then breaking it down into manageable steps. Every journey begins with a single step.

My life revolves around food. I love eating and cooking. I am always trying out new recipes. Alongside anything food related, I enjoy hiking, travelling and reading. I always have a podcast playing too.
