Full-time tennis player achieves top AS Level grades | Carlotta, A Level Student and Pro Tennis Player

By King's InterHigh

Professional tennis player Carlotta has received top A grades with us in AS Level Biology, achieving an exceptional maximum mark of 120 in two papers. Here’s how learning online has helped her pursue her career as an elite athlete while continuing to excel in her academic studies.

I think online school is a very good option for athletes like me who need flexibility with their studies and who want to have a good education without sacrificing the ability to pursue other dreams…

Carlotta

A Level Student and Professional Tennis Player

Why did you join King's InterHigh?

I joined King's InterHigh because I am a full-time tennis player, so I travel a lot for tournaments and I train in the morning and in the afternoon for a total of 5 hours. Therefore, going to a normal school would've been very difficult for me. Going to an online school allows me to have a flexible schedule and to keep up with my studies, while maintaining my training schedule. I particularly chose King's InterHigh because a family friend said it was a really good school and suggested I go there.

What has been your biggest highlight during your journey with us so far?

One of my favourite things about King's InterHigh is that I feel as though I am going to a normal school because everything is very well organised and I have good communication with all the teachers. Even though many say learning online is more difficult, I have actually found that I have been learning more online than at a normal school, because I have direct access to many resources that can help me do lots of practice on any topic I need, and it's helped me to become more organized with all my subjects.

What is one thing you've experienced at King's InterHigh that you couldn't have in a mainstream school setting?

At King's InterHigh, I have access to recordings of every single lesson, so I never miss any content or explanation from the teachers. It's also great for revision if I need to revise a topic I'm not sure about. At a mainstream school, I obviously did not have this advantage, so any time I wasn't present at school due to tournaments, travel or even because I was at home with a cold, it was difficult to catch up on what I missed.

What are your plans for next year?

This is my last academic school year and next year I will take a sabbatical year, so I can focus on tennis. At the end of that year I will decide whether to continue with tennis at a professional level or continue with my studies.

What are your dreams for the future?

My dreams in the future are to become a top 10 tennis player and to win a Grand Slam. After my career I would like to study something in science, specifically biology, such as nutrition.

What would you say to someone who has been considering online school?

I think online school is a very good option for athletes like me who need flexibility with their studies and who want to have a good education without sacrificing the ability to pursue other dreams, such as sports.

By King's InterHigh

King’s InterHigh is an independent British international online school. Offering Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form education, we cater to students from age 7 – 18 who are looking for a high quality British education delivered in a way that revolves around their lifestyle.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
