Enhanced Support Services: All about our wellbeing and academic add-ons

By King's InterHigh

We’re proud to say that support is one of the core pillars of our school community at King’s InterHigh.

Alongside expert teaching, engaging lessons, and cutting-edge tools, we know that a strong academic approach isn’t the only thing students need to thrive in their education. That’s why we’ve designed our whole school with personalised support in mind, with pastoral care, tailored accommodations, and more built into our learning environment.

On top of our core support, we also recognise that many young people require more specialised support to get the most out of their learning, take on their education with confidence, and improve their wellbeing both in and out of school.

Like many parents, you’re not alone if finding that support has felt like an uphill battle, whether you’ve spent years advocating for interventions or you’ve struggled to prove your child meets the threshold for help. At King’s InterHigh, our Enhanced Support Services are designed to meet that exact need.

Comprising optional add-on courses and workshops across various areas of wellbeing and academics, our Enhanced Support Services are designed to give your child the extra layer of support and guidance they need for their unique challenges. Let’s take a look at what these services are and how they can help your child on their school journey.

Our core support for every student

At King’s InterHigh, every young person in our community benefits from a school environment built around their individual needs, which is part of what makes our online learning so well suited to students with SEN.

If your child needs support for autism, ADHD, dyslexia, visual and hearing impairments, mental health challenges, or any other condition or learning difficulty that impacts their education, we work together to make sure they can thrive.

From the moment you first join us, you can create an Inclusive Teaching Plan (ITP): a simple yet highly effective way to let us know exactly what support your child may need in the classroom. This could include camera and microphone exemptions so they can participate by typing, adaptive materials or assistive tools, and everything in between.

Alongside our dedicated, expert SEN team, all of our teachers receive regular, comprehensive training in supporting students with special educational needs. This means that support never happens in a bubble, with each King’s InterHigh teacher adapting their lessons to the needs and learning profiles of each student.

The online environment itself also eliminates many of the challenges that can make traditional school overwhelming, like sensory overload in busy corridors and classrooms. Here, students can learn from the comfort of home without losing out on live teacher-classmate interaction, take breaks whenever they need to, and access all their materials at the touch of a button to study at their pace.

All of this core support is available to every family that joins King’s InterHigh at no extra cost.

About our Enhanced Support Services

In addition to our core, school-wide support, our optional Enhanced Support Services were developed for the young people in our community who thrive best with specialised guidance, bringing your child targeted support in the areas they’ll benefit from most.

Our Enhanced Support Services fall into three categories: wellbeing support, academic support, and education coaching. Whether your child needs help managing anxiety, building social skills, developing literacy or numeracy confidence, or learning how to study effectively, we’ve designed these services specifically for our online school community. Each workshop and course is led by a specialist in small groups (with some options, like counselling, offered one-to-one), creating a nurturing space where your child can overcome their individual challenges and flourish.

Plus, like our whole approach to learning at King’s InterHigh, Enhanced Support Services are flexible. You can choose exactly which services your child needs, when they need them. Even if you join us after the term starts, your child can drop into a course cycle right away to get support quickly.

Some services are also available across a range of time frames, such as five or 10 weeks. And, many of our academic courses are recorded just like our classes, so your child can revisit everything they’ve learned whenever they need an extra boost.

So, what are the Enhanced Support Services we offer?

Wellbeing support

When your child’s emotional wellbeing is looked after, everything else can finally fall into place. Children and teens who feel supported mentally are better able to learn, connect with their peers, and develop confidence in their daily lives.

Our wellbeing support services at King’s InterHigh have been designed to help our community with some of the most common wellbeing challenges so they can flourish happily at school and beyond.

Anxiety management

If worries and anxiety are overwhelming your child or getting in the way of their learning, our anxiety management course will bring them practical tools to help them understand and manage what they’re experiencing.

Designed by our qualified school counsellor and delivered by experienced inclusion practitioners, these small-group sessions create a safe space where students can learn about anxiety in a way that makes sense to them and grow with other young people who “get it.”

Over the course of ten weeks, your child will move from feeling overwhelmed by their anxiety to understanding and managing it.

  • Understanding replaces fear as students learn what anxiety actually is, how their brains and bodies react, and how to make sense of their experiences.
  • Practical tools become second nature, with a focus on mindfulness, grounding techniques, breathing exercises, and more.
  • Art-based activities shift thinking patterns as students develop positive thinking techniques through creative work.

Social skills

For young people who find social situations confusing or stressful, our Social Skills course offers a structured, supportive space to develop their confidence and know-how.

Taught by skilled inclusion practitioners in small groups, each session follows a comforting routine that helps everyone participate at their own pace. Consistently, our students tell us the most valuable part of these workshops is being able to talk with classmates who truly empathise.

Our social skills course creates a structured space where confidence and communication abilities can grow naturally.

  • Sessions start with an emotional check-in so students can share how they’re feeling, discuss what matters to them, and build comfort with self-expression.
  • Skills develop through fun activities that teach turn-taking, teamwork, and more, with guidance to understand complex ideas like non-verbal communication and sensory processing.
  • Connection creates belonging, with students consistently telling us the best part of this course is talking with classmates who “get” them.
Graphic showing a quote from Emanuela, mum to Mirko: “The social skills and anxiety management courses have changed my son, for sure! He’s gone from one end to another with his confidence. New identity, new little man, super confident, and very happy too.”

One-to-one counselling

Our one-to-one counselling is ideal for young people who need deeper, more personalised support to work through bigger wellbeing challenges.

Your child will work together with a fully qualified and accredited school counsellor who understands how to help children and teenagers process difficult thoughts and feelings. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs in a free initial consultation.

Our counselling sessions are designed to adapt to your child’s specific needs for the best outcomes.

  • We match your child’s age and preferences, with options like creative and play therapies for younger students, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) for older students, and person-centred therapy for a less structured approach.
  • Fully qualified counsellors guide your child through their personal wellbeing challenges for a deeper level of support than you’ll find in the classroom.
  • You stay informed, with a free initial consultation to discuss your child’s needs before deciding whether counselling is right for them.

Wellbeing mentoring

While all King’s InterHigh students have access to pastoral support from their Reflect tutor, some young people benefit from more intensive, one-to-one guidance.

Through wellbeing mentoring, we bring your child weekly sessions with a skilled practitioner who will work with your child to create a personalised plan for managing their mental health, confidence, organisation, and more.

Our wellbeing mentoring programme has a weekly alternating structure that gives your child both community and individual attention.

  • Week A brings peer support as small focus groups of up to three students work together to understand they’re not alone in their challenges.
  • Week B brings one-to-one guidance with individual sessions that provide the space to address personal struggles and build useful strategies.
  • Parents see the development as we build a personalised mentoring plan together with your child, with regular reviews and updates.

Academic support

With the right help and guidance, we know that every child can make excellent progress, reach their targets, and get the grades they need for their future goals. Our academic services bring students specialist teaching in English, maths, and more in a supportive space where they can build their confidence as well as their skills.

EAL support

We welcome students from all over the world at King’s InterHigh, and your child doesn’t have to be a native speaker to join us. Our support courses for students learning English as an additional language are taught by our expert teachers.

Following the internationally recognised Cambridge English Language Assessment Curriculum, they know exactly how to bring each young person’s English skills up to the right academic level so that they can get the most out of their learning.

Our EAL support sessions are designed to build language skills systematically, matching your child’s needs as they progress through the years.

  • Grammar, vocabulary, and fluency skills are the main focus, led by an age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Confidence grows through activities that blend academic rigour and fun, all in a comfortable environment.
  • Progress is tracked closely, with our specialist English teachers following each student’s development in small group sessions.

Literacy support

Confidence with reading and writing underpins success across every subject, which is why literacy support can be so valuable.

Trained in dyslexia-friendly teaching approaches, our experienced subject specialists lead small-group literacy support sessions where students can build their skills without pressure. Whether your child has dyslexia, learning gaps, or simply needs extra support to get the most out of their learning, these sessions are great for developing their foundations.

Literacy support sessions create a pressure-free environment where your child can build their core skills.

  • New strategies for spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and grammar give students the know-how they need to develop their writing skills.
  • Learning to skim, scan, and make inferences helps students develop their reading comprehension, which will benefit them in all subjects.
  • Fun and engaging word games and quizzes help make literacy fun, not something to dread.
Graphic showing a quote from Gabriel and Catarina's parents: “Unlike Vietnam’s test-heavy system, King’s InterHigh emphasises daily tasks and assignments, allowing children to explore creativity and develop skills. The UK-based classes help them adapt to British accents and culture seamlessly.”

Numeracy support

Our numeracy support courses can transform learning for students who lack confidence with numbers or experience anxiety around maths.

In these sessions, our qualified maths specialists (who are trained in inclusion) help students grow their skills across all fundamental areas of numeracy. It’s a great option for young people with dyscalculia as well as students who need a helping hand to boost their maths abilities.

Numeracy support sessions will quash your child’s nerves around maths by building their confidence from the ground up.

  • Learning the fundamentals like measurement, fractions, times tables, and operations, your child will grow to understand the building blocks that underpin all of maths.
  • Complex tasks become manageable as students learn how to approach word problems and other common maths challenges.
  • Fun activities change your child’s relationship with maths, with games and interactive resources tailored to their age group.

Maths skills support

A step up from our numeracy support, students preparing for IGCSE Maths sometimes need targeted support to develop the intermediate skills that bring everything together.

Our maths skills support course provides exactly that: a well-rounded intervention taught by expert mathematics teachers who know how to make complex topics accessible to teens. Each session provides a nurturing space to consolidate the core skills that will take them to success at IGCSE level.

On our maths skills support course, your child will bridge the gaps they need to cross to prepare for IGCSE success.

  • Essential skills come together in sessions that focus on BIDMAS, algebra, probability, data representation, and more.
  • Learning with interactive resources helps keep students interested and engaged rather than nervous and intimidated.
  • Our expert guidance builds their capability, with experienced teachers who understand inclusion there to make complex topics accessible.

Study skills support

Knowing what to learn is one thing; knowing how to learn effectively is another.

Our study skills course is a comprehensive programme for students who need guidance on independent study, from creating an effective environment right through to preparing for tests and examinations. Many students who struggle with confidence in their studies find these sessions particularly transformative.

This comprehensive course transforms independent learning from mysterious to manageable.

  • Practical techniques like notetaking, research skills, revision strategies, and essay writing form the basis of the course to give students a strong foundation.
  • Balance prevents burnout, which is why we also teach students how to maintain a healthy lifestyle alongside studying.
  • Our step-by-step structure removes the overwhelm and demystifies studying, showing your child it’s a skill that anyone can learn.

Education coaching

Finally, our education coaching programme is designed for students who benefit from close support to work towards their educational goals.

Our education coaching alternates each week between small group taught sessions and one-to-one conversations where students can discuss their progress and update action plans. It’s particularly helpful for young people who know they want to succeed but need guidance on how to get there, whether that’s building motivation, developing resilience, or learning how to use feedback constructively.

With education coaching, students will:

  • Identify their goals and create realistic plans to get there.
  • Build practical productivity skills like organisation and time management.
  • Become more resilient and learn how to bounce back from setbacks.
  • Understand how to make great progress through feedback.
  • Enjoy warm, focused support in a nurturing atmosphere.

Enhance your child’s learning journey

The right support won’t just help your child through their individual challenges; it can change how they feel about learning, life, and themselves in the most transformative ways.

At King’s InterHigh, your child can access the support they need when they need it with help and guidance that adapts as they grow and change. Whether our core support is the key your family’s been searching for or your child could benefit from our Enhanced Support Services too, we’re here to make your child’s learning journey the best it can be.

By King's InterHigh

King’s InterHigh is an independent British international online school. Offering Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form education, we cater to students from age 7 – 18 who are looking for a high quality British education delivered in a way that revolves around their lifestyle.

In this article:

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
