Celebrating a fantastic first term at King’s InterHigh: Some of our key highlights

By King's InterHigh

What a brilliant first term it has been! This term was packed with activities that sparked joy, curiosity, and growth, from creative competitions and exciting trips to career-driven opportunities for our KS4 and KS5 students. Below are just some of the key highlights that showcase the vibrancy and spirit of our school community.

Creative works summer competition

In the first week of term, we asked students, “Did you make any art or creative works over the Summer?” and had over 300 submissions from across our school! While there were many fantastic pieces of work submitted, here are the winners:

Junior Snack Masters

We had a fantastic time with our first primary house event, Junior Snack Masters! Children enjoyed three fun activities: creating unique pizzas in Pizza Picasso, inventing healthy snacks, and making edible art using food. They uploaded their photos and recipes to Book Creator, earning house points for each creation. It was a wonderful way to inspire creativity and celebrate their tasty masterpieces!

Trip to the London Zoo

The KS3 Bonding Day trip to the London Zoo on the 21st of October was a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many families, including those who travelled from Spain, Romania, and Chile, coming together to create lasting memories. The trip allowed our students to form new friendships while families enjoyed a fun and meaningful day. Highlights included the exciting quiz competition, which added extra enjoyment to the experience. We are grateful for everyone’s participation and look forward to more opportunities for our community to connect and grow.

Welcoming our new Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

 Bethan Shafiq

We were pleased to welcome Bethan Shafiq as our new Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at King’s InterHigh this term. With a wealth of experience in education, including leadership roles such as Vice Principal in charge of safeguarding and personal development, Bethan brings invaluable expertise to the role.  We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our school community.

Gingerbread competition

We challenged our students to create a gingerbread masterpiece with a twist for this year’s annual Gingerbread Competition. Rather than just any shape or design, students were tasked with crafting a gingerbread building—real or fictional—that represents where they live or something they love. Winning entries received credits and special prizes.

Fun Robotics in Dubai

Our UAE-based students recently enjoyed an exciting visit to the Fun Robotics centre in Dubai. Younger students engaged in a construction activity, learning about the shapes used to design tall and stable structures, and later put their skills to the test by building bridges. Meanwhile, KS3 and KS4 students took part in a 3D modelling workshop, where they used design software to create 3D volumes and surfaces. The staff at Fun Robotics were particularly impressed with the students’ work — some even managed to design an entire house!

The King’s InterHigh Bake-Off

We hosted our very first King’s InterHigh Bake-Off this year! Organised by our Key Stage 5 team, the competition was held throughout September and open to all Year 12, 13, and DP1+2 students. Participants were invited to showcase their baking skills with photos or videos of their entries.  You can see some of the winning bakes here!

Performing arts trip to London

Some of our Key Stage 3 students enjoyed an exciting Performing Arts trip to London, where they took part in a professional dance class at Pineapple Studios and saw Six the Musical at the Arts Theatre. The dance class, led by an inspiring instructor, introduced students to modern and classical techniques, fostering creativity and teamwork. Following the class, the students enjoyed a dynamic and unforgettable Six performance, which energised and inspired everyone. The trip was a huge success, igniting a passion for dance and theatre and encouraging students to explore their artistic interests further.

Welcoming our Head Students

Meet our Head Students for the 2024-25 academic year: Grace, Sylvie, and Asaph. Grace, passionate about leadership and spreading positivity, aims to support others and challenge herself in this role. Sylvie, an English Literature and Classical Civilisations student, is excited to represent her peers and bring positive changes to King’s InterHigh. Asaph, a Maths and Physics student, is eager to make his final year impactful while balancing his love for mountain biking and guitar and working in his family business. Together, they’re committed to making this year memorable and supporting students every step of the way.

The Grinch staff performance

The King’s InterHigh Staff Festive Performance took place on Wednesday 11th December 2024, featuring a fun and creative rendition of The Grinch. Teachers showcased their talents with impressive performances, costumes, and AI-generated backdrops, providing a festive and entertaining experience for all.

Student achievements

Our students haven’t just excelled in school—they’ve been achieving remarkable things outside the classroom, too! Whether publishing books, winning tennis championships or completing groundbreaking research papers, our students continue to inspire us with their dedication and talent. We’ve seen students achieve excellent marks in cycle tests, run charity fundraisers, and even earn their second-degree black belts in Taekwondo. These achievements are a testament to our learners’ diverse interests and outstanding commitment.

See you in the new year!

As we wrap up this term, we wish everyone a joyful and restful holiday season. Thank you for your enthusiasm and hard work throughout this term. We can’t wait to welcome you all back in the new year, ready for even more exciting activities, achievements, and opportunities to grow together!

By King's InterHigh

King’s InterHigh is an independent British international online school. Offering Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form education, we cater to students from age 7 – 18 who are looking for a high quality British education delivered in a way that revolves around their lifestyle.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
