Celebrating A Level Results 2023: Tabitha Hartley

By King's InterHigh

Having achieved stellar A Level results – AAA in History, Psychology, and Sociology – Tabitha is off to travel the world and follow her passion for yoga before joining Exeter University to study history. Here's Tabitha's story on how online learning with King's InterHigh helped pave the way for her success.

"I found my exam experience at the King's InterHigh centre really positive. The rooms were quiet with only a handful of students and all the exam invigilators were really friendly which created a calm atmosphere to take the exam in."

Tabitha Hartley

Exeter University student

Why did you join King's InterHigh, and what has your learning journey with us meant to you?

I joined King’s InterHigh as I was travelling with my family so the school provided the perfect opportunity for me to learn and continue my studies whilst also being able to travel and enjoy new experiences. I’ve found my learning experience to be really positive at King's InterHigh; I love how flexible the learning is. I was able to complete lessons and also have lots of free time to do other activities that I enjoyed. All of my teachers were very helpful and supportive, they always answered any questions I had and provided really good feedback and encouragement.

What's something you've gained from King's InterHigh that's really helped you personally?

I think that learning at King's InterHigh really helps you gain independence and develop self- discipline. The learning structure really helped me to improve my time management with my studies and outside activities. I also became more independent as I managed my studies and organised when I completed my work and revision. One of my favourite features of the school is that you are able to have more freedom with when you can complete the lessons. If I was ever unable to attend a lesson I loved how all the lessons were recorded so I could complete them in my own time to catch up.

Is there something you’ve learned from King’s InterHigh that’s special to online learning or your situation?

I think online learning is really special because it removes the limitations of a regular school day. The lack of commuting provides so much more free time which you can spend however you like. For me I loved being able to use this time to do yoga in the morning before school and to go swimming after school or to have some more time to relax. It also gives you more time to complete any extra work or catch up on any lessons that you have missed. I love how you can also learn wherever you are in the world which was perfect for me whilst travelling. For me I also get quite anxious during exams but I found my exam experience at the King's InterHigh centre really positive. The rooms were quiet with only a handful of students and all the exam invigilators were really friendly which created a calm atmosphere to take the exam in. This really helped to ease my nerves and I would really recommend it.

What are your dreams for the future?

I have a place at Exeter University to study history but I plan to defer a year and go travelling before I start. I would also like to train as a yoga teacher to follow my passion for yoga.

King’s InterHigh is an independent British international online school. Offering Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form education, we cater to students from age 7 – 18 who are looking for a high quality British education delivered in a way that revolves around their lifestyle.

VAT charges explained

The UK Government has implemented a policy to charge VAT on independent schools taking effect from the 1st of January 2025. This VAT charge is payable by families who are based in, or access, King’s InterHigh from the UK. This change does not impact families who are based outside the UK and access King’s InterHigh from another country.

We understand the significant financial commitment you make in choosing our online school as well as how important it is to be able to financially plan. After careful review of the details of the legislation, we will support parents by absorbing costs ourselves, so that a slower phasing in of this unwelcome change reduces its financial impact on families.

For the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year (starting September 2024), Inspired Education Group will absorb much of the 20% VAT charge. For the Spring and Summer terms when the 20% VAT will now apply, we will only pass on 8.5% to families, taking up the difference ourselves.

To further support families with the financial implications of this change in government policy, for the 2025-2026 academic year (starting in September 2025) there will be no inflationary tuition fee increases, and that Inspired Education Group will continue to absorb costs to limit the increase to 8.5% for that academic year. Overall, this will mean we have phased in 17% of the 20% VAT cost over two years to avoid sudden increases for families and have not increased tuition fees.

King’s InterHigh is committed to offering competitive fees and accessible, high-quality independent education, along with the unique benefits of online learning. We are pleased that through careful cost control and the benefits of being part of Inspired, the leading global group of premium schools, we can significantly reduce the financial effect on families due to this change in UK VAT policy.
